The memory still fresh.

This
picture taken by myself J. Dandridge a few day after. I was in the vicinity at that time, but had no idea that my brother was in Italy. These young fellows were later transfered to the war cemetery at Coriano.
the area is called green valley and is a superb setting between Rimini and St Marino. I can't remember the names of the other fellows but I know one was a seargent and one a padre.

Message 1 - Coriano

Posted on: 09 May 2005 by Trooper Tom Canning - WW2 Site Helper

Sir ,
I visited the cemetery at Coriano Ridge just last September -2004 - and can assure you that the cemetery is as you say - a beautiful spot and the graves are well tended with some eight part time gardeners and a whole school full of children from Coriano township.
Each year a class will be designated keepers of a section and they keep the weeds away - lay flowers etc - with 2000 graves in that one cemetery, the children are busy as there are seven cemeteries in the general area from Gradera to Rimini .
The 7th Ox and Bucks were in the 167th Bde of 56th Div.(Black Cats) and would have been in the Gemmano/Croce area a few miles west of Coriano. Whereas we , with the Canadians were just off the coast.

I am very sorry that it has taken me so long to reply to yoiur kind information about the Black Watch graves at Coriano. I tried several times some time ago but the system kept rejecting my attempts. However I decided to try again and this time it seems to be working.

Archie Callander was one of my particular friends and only a couple of days before he was killed we had been playing poker by the light of a guttering candle in a ruined farmhouse. He won!

I hope you have recovered completely from your heart trouble.

Best wishes from Harrymac
