One day my Mum went in to the shelter with my Dad, and my sister and her baby. I was working at the welding place at the time, and I wanted to go and see them as I wasn鈥檛 far. They said 鈥淥h, they won鈥檛 like you going鈥, but I said 鈥淚鈥檓 going鈥 and I walked out, and as I went along I could hear 鈥榩ing鈥 ping鈥 all around me, of course it was shrapnel, but I didn鈥檛 realise it. My Mother said it鈥檚 a good job I didn鈥檛 know what it was because you鈥檇 have been frightened - if that goes through you it would kill you.鈥
I said 鈥淚鈥檝e come to see you, there鈥檚 my sister sitting there all forlorn with a baby, there鈥檚 my Father sitting there, and you, and I鈥檝e come to check you鈥檙e ok; so as long as you鈥檙e all alright鈥︹ then I returned to work.
Again they didn鈥檛 really mind 鈥 I mean they didn鈥檛 really want you to go because they want to know that you鈥檙e there, because if anything dropped there, then they鈥檇 need to account for you 鈥 so that鈥檚 fair really.
