This story was gathered, written and submitted to the 大象传媒 Peoples war by James Kelly

Have you heard?
Have you heard of a place called Burma?
The land of forgotten men
Who fought in a steaming jungle
Against the ferocious army of Japan

Have you heard of the Royal Navy?
The Royal Air Force as well?
Nor forgetting the merchantmen
Who served in the campaign too

Have you heard of the Burma railway
Built by these very men
Many of them died in the effort
But some of them did survive

Have you heard of the town of Kohima
On a hill nearby stands a rock
On which is carved this epitaph
And this is what it reads
WHEN YOU GO HOME
TELL THEM OFF US AND SAY
FOR YOUR TOMORROW WE GAVE OUR TODAY
