Hello to anyone reading this. Since the age of 10-12yrs I have been interested in the war years and the way soldiers and thier families coped during the struggle of the times. In later life I discovered my father 'Jack Bennett' was a commando. Sadley he passed away 25yrs ago. Talking of our interest within the family my brother, sister and myself decided to research our Dads' war history, finding out he was in No3 Army Commando. Our brother found out a little moreof Commandos for us. Then in November 1999 we travelled to Fort William in Scotland to join in the rememberance services and meet other Commandos.seeing their training ground at Achnacarry and the beautiful statue of three Commandos, high on the hill at Spean Bridge. We have met many men of the Commandos, they have been unbelievably helpful in our research, giving us a welcome wherever we are and taken us into thier hearts as we have taken so to these very brave men.

Message 1 - Commandos

Posted on: 07 July 2003 by Mark E

Hello Elizabeth

Do you have any stories about your father as a commando? My dad, in the RN, transferred from destroyers to coastal fores, and part of his job on a motor launch was to transport special forces to and from occupied beaches. I suspect that this must have included commandos. Do you know anything about how your father was transported to his destinations?

Incidentally, here's a chap who was also a commando:

Best, Mark
