William Leslie Keable - 1066462 - 11th Field Regt RA
I am interested to hear from any relatives of Bdr. Boon or Gnr. Goodey who served with the 11th Field Regt RA and both of whom died in the same shelling of their battery on February 12, 1944 at Monte Cassino which killed my grandfather Sgt William Leslie Keable. I know that Bdr Boon was from liverpool and was 27 when he died he was the son of Edward and Katherine Boon of Liverpool and married to Irene Boon also of Liverpool. I know that Gnr Goodey was 20 and was from New Haw, Surrey the son of James and Rosetta Goodey. My grandfather, Bdr Boon and Gnr Goodey now rest almost side by side at the Cassino Commonwealth cemetary!! II F 6, 3 and 4 respectively! My grandfather was 36 married to Edith and had two girls Janet (my mother) and Sylv.
Lieut J P Walker was injured in the same shelling but not seriously according to the Regt War Diary. I can find no record of him although I am still ploughing through the diaries! But it would appear that he survived the War?! I would also love to hear from him or anyone who knows/knew him or anyone else who served with the 11th in Italy or prior to that in Egypt.
