TUESDAY 18TH APRIL 1944 - Wrote to my darling wife. Fatigues today packing for the move tomorrow we are going to Bari. Dreamt of Ethel last night. O.K.

WEDNESDAY 19TH APRIL 1944 - Moved out from 186 transit camp, went by train, (coaches this time), to Bari. are billeted on a big factory, still sleeping on the floor.

THURSDAY 20TH APRIL 1944 - Had a letter from Ethel, replied to it. Saw Ensa show not bad. I keep thinking of my darling.

FRIDAY 21ST APRIL 1944 - Betty's birthday age 10. Wrote to Ethel And Ethel & Bert. Have a day in not much to do, this is getting very boring. Wish I was home to wish Betty a happy birthday.

SATURDAY 22ND APRIL 1944 - Very pleased today had 3 letters from my darling. Wrote and answered all. Dan & Hilda expect a happy event.

SUNDAY 23RD APRIL 1944 - Some of the fellows are going on detachment today. I am evidently on train guard. My back is troubling me. Went to pictures. Wrote to Betty (airgraph).

MONDAY 24TH APRIL 1944 - Very pleased today 3 letters from Ethel, went to pictures. Dreamt of my darling wife. Started to write to Ethel, will finish it tomorrow.

TUESDAY 25TH APRIL 1944 - 2 letters from Ethel, I am so much more happy when I hear from her. I am on guard tonight saw football match, must finish Ethels letter tonight.

WEDNESDAY 26TH APRIL 1944 - Not much doing today 771, wrote to George Goodyear. Had a letter from Ethel. Went to pictures.

THURSDAY 27TH APRIL 1944 - Wrote to Ethel, Nell & Perc. Corrie & Bill. Have not heard from E. Standing by for train, Moved to Pasco Nord Stn guard to Cevaro.

FRIDAY 28TH APRIL 1944 - Arrived Toggio on our way back to Bari. Arrived Bari 8.15p.m. Very tired, no trouble.

SATURDAY 29TH APRIL 1944 - Day off today, plenty of sleep. Went into town. Had letters from Ethel also E. Answered E's letters.

SUNDAY 30TH APRIL 1944 - Wrote airgraph to Win. Standing by. Had a letter from Win. Bound for Foggia. Bombs, arrived central station 7p.m

MONDAY 1ST MAY 1944 - Arrived Foggia 5.30a.m, uneventful journey. Arrived back at Bari 5.25p.m. Good nights rest, Had.

TUESDAY 2ND MAY 1944 - Wrote to Ethel, also Uncle Len. Had a letter from Ethel. Also wrote green envelope to Ethel, standing by.

WEDNESDAY 3RD MAY 1944 - Left Pasco Sud for Cevaro, no incident. Started back 8.30p.m came back on footplate of engine. Have not heard from Flossie yet.

THURSDAY 4TH MAY 1944 - Arrived Bari, very tired and dirty 6.30a.m, 771 day of rest today, had three letters from Ethel, answered them asked Ethel for cigs.

FRIDAY 5TH MAY 1944 - Wrote to Bert & Gladys, also airgraph to my darling wife, standing by wrote green letter to Ethel. No mail today.

SATURDAY 6TH MAY 1944 - Arrived Pasco Nord 1.15a.m Foggia and return Bari Centrali 5.30p.m. No mail Thinking of my darling Ethel.

SUNDAY 7TH MAY 1944 - Day off today had letters from Win & Dave also Eddie, none from Ethel, wrote to Dave, also my darling. Keep thinking of Ethel & Betty.

MONDAY 8TH MAY 1944 - Standing by, received letter from my darling Ethel, also airgraph from Mum & Dad. Left Centrali for Basletta. 8.20p.m

TUESDAY 9TH MAY 1944 - Arrived back at Bari 5a.m, wrote letters to Ethel also a/graph to George Baker & Rene. Going into town tonight. My back is getting better.

WEDNESDAY 10TH MAY 1944 - Standing by today, started my letter to my darling Ethel, Depart from Bari for Cevaro.

THURSDAY 11TH MAY 1944 - Arrived Cevaro 4.30. Arrived Bassi 7.45. Had letters from Ethel and Eddie. Wrote to Rene.

FRIDAY 12TH MAY 1944 - Wrote to my darling, also Ethel & Bert, Bill & May and Edi. Went to Bari. Standing by. Now in charge.

SATURDAY 13TH MAY 1944 - Standing by, issued with K.D. Went to Foggia, thinking of my darling.

SUNDAY 14TH MAY 1944 - Arrived Foggia, returned to Bari, have not heard from Ethel.

MONDAY 15TH MAY 1944 - Wrote to Shaddock also Stokes, had letter from Ethel and one from Shaddock. Arrive Foggia.

TUESDAY 16TH MAY 1944 - Not a bad journey, met fellow in eight army from Lewisham. Returned from Bari.

WEDNESDAY 17TH MAY 1944 - Day of today. Letters from George Goodyear, also my darling. I wrote to Mum & Dad.

THURSDAY 18TH MAY 1944 - Standing by, Went to Foggia, wrote to Ethel. Left Foggia for Bassi.

FRIDAY 19TH MAY 1944 - Arrived back at Bari had a letter from Ethel also Joyce, wrote a airgraph to Ethel also Joyce. Stayed in.

SATURDAY 20TH MAY 1944 - Standing by, wrote letter to Ethel, green envelope, saw George Lifford.

SUNDAY 21ST MAY 1944 - Left Centrali for Barletta returned to Bari, wrote letters to Ethel also Win, not much to do except think of my darling.

MONDAY 22ND MAY 1944 - Day of Today. Heard I am going to Monopoli tomorrow. Wrote a/graph to Ethel. Went and saw Laburnham Grove.

TUESDAY 23RD MAY 1944 - Left Bari arrived Monopoli: on static guard here. Not much to do. Wrote to my darling, went to pictures saw Pride of the Yankees.

WEDNESDAY 24TH MAY 1944 - Had a letter from Ethel on guard 2-10. No incidents. Getting sunburnt. Good billet here.

THURSDAY 25TH MAY 1944 - On guard tonight 10-6, went and had a bath . Have not heard from Flossie yet, think I'll write again Friday. Food lousy.

FRIDAY 26TH MAY 1944 - Day off today wrote to Ethel . Went for a swim in the Adriatic met a fellow from Curkenwell had a few drinks.

SATURDAY 27TH MAY 1944 - 6-10 today went to pictures hope to get a letter from Ethel tomorrow. Now off to bed.

SUNDAY 28TH MAY 1944 - Went to the Ship ML577 had a real good day with some real good fellows, plenty of sun, beer and Vino. On guard tonight. Swimming.

MONDAY 29TH MAY 1944 - Wrote to my darling told her about Sunday. Had dinner, tea & supper aboard ML577 very good time. Letters from Edie (a/graph). Swimming.

TUESDAY 30TH MAY 1944 - 2-10 guard today. Had letters from Ethel, she loves me so very much. I do miss her so. Swimming.

WEDNESDAY 31ST MAY 1944 - 10-6 night guard. Wrote to Ethel, I am like a red herring. Wrote to Flossie & Arthur also George Goodyear. Swimming.

THURSDAY 1ST JUNE 1944 - Day off had letters from my darling. Started to answer it, will finish later. Ethel says she has sent my parcel. Letters from E. Wrote to Win. Went to pictures.

FRIDAY 2ND JUNE 1944 - 6-2 guard, sore leg. Nothing doing today, wrote green envelope to my darling telling her how I met my idol.

SATURDAY 3RD JUNE 1944 - 10-6 Night guard. Received papers from Ethel God bless her. Found and exported stolen pir van 5100507.

SUNDAY 4TH JUNE 1944 - Day off went to Bari, saw Boxing at Stadium a fair day, met fellow from Deptford. Heard that we have taken Rome.

MONDAY 5TH JUNE 1944 - Wrote a/graph to my darling, 2-6 guard. Rather worried about my leg. No letters today, met a Pole Kwik Gancig.

TUESDAY 6TH JUNE 1944 - Great news second front has started. Letters from my Ethel, Bert & Corrie. Freddie in 100 General Hospital must try and see him. Night guard tonight.

WEDNESDAY 7TH JUNE 1944 - Answered Ethels letters yesterday (a).
Wrote a/graph to Ethel (b). Day off today. Went swimming Adriatic. Started to write letter to my darling.

THURSDAY 8TH JUNE 1944 - 6-2 guard. Letters from Flossie, Win & Uncle Len. Went swimming in Adriatic. Pictures tonight.

FRIDAY 9TH JUNE 1944 - Night guard tonight, Wrote to Flossie and Arthur, Gladys & Bert, Bella &Jack, & Win. Had my photo back with ring. Wrote Ethel letters (a). Letters from Ethel

SATURDAY 10TH JUNE 1944 - Posted Flossie, Winnies, Bert and Bellas a/graph. Day off today. Went swimming. Food is lousy still.

SUNDAY 11TH JUNE 1944 - Wrote a/mail to E. 2-10 guard. Met Conductor from Poplars bus depot. Food putrid. Do not here much news here.

MONDAY 12TH JUNE 1944 - Wrote Uncle Len. Wrote to Ethel asked for Jacks address (b). Wrote a/graph to Betty. Swimming. Night guard.

TUESDAY 13TH JUNE 1944 - Day off. Went to casa retro pictures. Letters from my darling.

WEDNESDAY 14TH JUNE 1944 - 6-2 Started letters to my darling, wrote a/graph to Jack. Swimming. Browned off.

THURSDAY 15TH JUNE 1944 - Wrote to Stokes. In the Army one year today. Night guard. no mail today. Swimming a very lot. Due for 3 shilling increase.

FRIDAY 16TH JUNE 1944 - Wrote to Corrie & Bill. Finished Ethels letter (c) . Day off today. No mail for me. Went to pictures. Got tight. Keep thinking of my darlings.

SATURDAY 17TH JUNE 1944 - 2-10 guard. Wrote a/graph to Henry & Edi. Letters from my darling posted on 8 June. Freddie out of hospital. also letters and photos from Ethel & Beryl Protel 4 May.

SUNDAY 18TH JUNE 1944 - answered Ethels letter (d). Night guard tonight. Sent war con form in. No mail

MONDAY 19TH JUNE 1944 - Day off. Have not heard from Stokes yet. Freddie out of hospital. have not received Bettys a/graph.

TUESDAY 20TH JUNE 1944 - 6-2 guard. no mail. Saw M.O. still A2. Browned off . no mail only three letters from Ethel so far this month. Wrote to Mum & Dad.

WEDNESDAY 21ST JUNE 1944 - Hope to get some mail today. Churchill hopeful. Father was worried about Ethel. Night guard. 2 Letters from my darling 11 (a) 13 (b). letters from Bill & May stokes, wrote to Ethel for my address.

THURSDAY 22ND JUNE 1944 -Wrote a/mail to my darling (E). so pleased to hear she is O.K. Pictures tonight. Day off . Ethel would like a _____ told her I'll try and get her one, asked Lilliput and Hanson. Ethel wants nuts.

FRIDAY 23RD JUNE 1944 - 2-10 guard . Illet put on charge by R.T.O. No mail. Nothing much to do. Went swimming in Adriatic. Think we will soon go back to Baoi.

SATURDAY 24TH JUNE 1944 - Wireless is now going. Wrote a/graph to my darling. Faster than a/mail. Night guard. Wrote green letter to Ethel. No letters from Jack yet.

SUNDAY 25TH JUNE 1944 - 1 papers from my darling. (illet on charge). Night guard again tonight. Swimming this afternoon. Hope to hear from my darling today. Asked in my letter cigs etc. But none yet.

MONDAY 26TH JUNE 1944 - Day off today. Wrote to Mrs Revis. Inoculation Jab. Again no mail. Pictures, swimming. Wrote a/graph to my darling.

TUESDAY 27TH JUNE 1944 - 2 letters from my darling E. Letters from Stokes, Win & Harry. Wrote to Stokes. Still 2 guard.

WEDNESDAY 28TH JUNE 1944 - 2-10 guard. Haircut this morning. No mail. Browned off , wrote to Win.

THURSDAY 29TH JUNE 1944 - Started letter G to my darling. No mail. Wrote a/graph to my darling. Swimming, night guard, inoculated.

FRIDAY 30TH JUNE 1944 - Night guard. Swimming today. Heard A1's are leaving, some talk of A2's as well. Won't be sorry if I go. Letter from my darling (d). Train smash Monopoli.

SATURDAY 1ST JULY 1944 - Finished a/mail in answer to Ethel. Day off, wrote to Bert.

SUNDAY 2ND JULY 1944 - 6-2 guard, wrote a/graph to my darling also Ethel and Bert. Letter from Ethel & Bert today posted May 6. Staying in.

MONDAY 3RD JULY 1944 - Nights. Heard the A1's have gone from this billet. No mail very worried about my darling I love them so. I can't sleep these nights thinking of them.

TUESDAY 4TH JULY 1944 - Day off. Thinking of going A1 if anything happens to Ethel and Betty I will. Letters from Bert & Freddie. Wrote a/graph to Ethel.

WEDNESDAY 5TH JULY 1944 - 2-10 guard. Swimming, no mail. Browned off still thinking of going A1. Still have not heard from Rene.

THURSDAY 6TH JULY 1944 - Nights, two letters from my darling and one from Cardiff. Asked her to be careful and that I don't like Yanks. I am beginning to feel jealous.

FRIDAY 7TH JULY 1944 - Letter from Jack, George Goodyear and the long awaited letters from Betty. Says she is going to Wins.

SATURDAY 8TH JULY 1944 - Answered Goodyears letter, and Betty's no mail today. Wrote a/graph to my darling (1). Told her I prefer not to have the Yanks come home.

SUNDAY 9TH JULY 1944 - Night guard. Started a/mail to my darling, told her I prefer her not to ask anymore Yanks home. A/graph from Flossie, answered same. Papers from Ethel. Answered Jacks letters.

MONDAY 10TH JULY 1944 - Had letters from Ethel (g). apologies to her for the way I have been writing hope she forgives me. Day off.

TUESDAY 11TH JULY 1944 - Cigs and letters from Ethel (h) finished off mail. I wrote to Win. Rather browned off. Always thinking of my darling.

WEDNESDAY 12TH JULY 1944 - A/graph from Auntie Doris. tells me she has sent some cigs. Wrote a/graph to my darling. Heard we are going home in time, just another summers night suppose.

THURSDAY 13TH JULY 1944 - Wrote to Auntie Doris, Mum & Dad, not much news hope to have a letter tomorrow from my darling.

FRIDAY 14TH JULY 1944 - 6-2 Lazy day today, went to pictures, no mail. Hope Ethel is O.K.

SATURDAY 15TH JULY 1944 - Night guard. No mail yet, hope there will be some for me later in the day. no parcel yet. Started a/mail J. Wrote a/graph to Ethel.

SUNDAY 16TH JULY 1944 - Day off, finished a/mail to Ethel's a/graph H (should be I), wrote a/graph to Harry Simmons. A/graph from Edie a/mail from Win.

MONDAY 17TH JULY 1944 - 2-10, Hope to hear from my darling. Very strong rumours we are going home. Browned off.

TUESDAY 18TH JULY 1944 - Letter from Betty and (I) from Ethel. Get rid of surplus kit. Wrote a/graph to Ethel (K). Ethel seems cross with me, hope she isn't really.

WEDNESDAY 19TH JULY 1944 - Day off, started to answer Ethels letters of the 10-7-44. Pictures. I am longing to be with my darling, its awful really to think what she's going through.

THURSDAY 20TH JULY 1944 - letter from my darling (J), finished a-mail (k). Plenty of fleas here, Blimey don't they bite, stayed in asked Ethel to enclose lock of hair in next KM.

FRIDAY 21ST JULY 1944 - Day off, not much happening, heard Germany is beginning to wobble. Saw ENSA show.

SATURDAY 22ND JULY 1944 - Nights, Revolt rumoured about Germany, hope its true. Mail, none for me. Swimming. Started a/mail to my darling.

SUNDAY 23RD JULY 1944 - Wrote green envelope to my darling, enclosed photos for Ethel, Win, Mum, Flossie and Bert. No mail. 2-10.

MONDAY 24TH JULY 1944 - Day off, wrote a/graph to Betty. hope to hear from my darling today. Letter from my darling. answer same. Nights.

TUESDAY 25TH JULY 1944 - Do pictures. Browned off, boring in Italy, keep thinking of my darling.

WEDNESDAY 26TH JULY 1944 - 6-2. Wrote a/graph to Fred Morrison.

THURSDAY 27TH JULY 1944 - Letter from my darling (L), answered if (M). Wrote to Flossie & Arthur. Swimming. Bill is going in Army, advised Ethel to tell him, try for kids.

FRIDAY 28TH JULY 1944 - Am now back at Bari on the M.T. Dodge, don't know if I will take it or not. Sea mail, but none for me, rather disappointed.

SATURDAY 29TH JULY 1944 - Had interview with MTO and CO. Having test tomorrow. Thinking of going A1, when I have been driving a month or two. Browned off. Started A/mail (N) to my darling.

SUNDAY 30TH JULY 1944 - Result of test o.k. Dodge driver, must get hang of rights side of road. 24hrs duty driver, busy night. 48miles, hope to hear from my darling tomorrow.

MONDAY 31ST JULY 1944 - Day off. finish letter (N) from my darling. Posted a/mail (N). Letters from E, she is very complimentary to me. Was sorry to leave Monopoli.
