This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Norman Wigley of the 大象传媒 Radio Sheffield Action Desk on behalf of Mr Edgar Jackson, and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions

In 1942 I was a member of 907 Squadron, ATC, in Clowne, Derbyshire.
I joined the RAF in 1943 and did my training at Madley in Herefordshire. I trained as a wireless operator and was assigned to 206 Squadron in the Middle East as a Sergeant Wireless Operator, and also did a gunnery course.

I then served as a wireless operator, (ground based), in Iraq, then to Bahrain in the Gulf for six months, from there, on to North Africa at Castel Benito, where I was demobbed in 1947.
