My grandmother, who lived in a very big house in a hampshire village, took in about forty evacuee children from London and ran a school for them. It was very difficult to provide for so many mouths during rationing so she had to come up with an ingenious plan. She asked all the butchers in the district to save her all the sheeps' heads(nobody wanted them). my grandmother, who was french and a very skilled cook, chopped up the tongues and told the children it was chicken. She turned the brains into meatballs and rissoles. and she turned the rest of it into stews and soups. Those children must have been the best fed children in the war!
