Edited transcription from a taped interview with John De Jersey
I had a chase one night, I was courting in the earlier part of the Occupation, I had a lady friend up at the Catel hospital, and I was late coming down, roughly about two hours after curfew, I think, and I came round the corner at l鈥橝umone, opposite where the clinic is now, and two German police were there, leaning against a wall having a cigarette, I shot past, they called out for me to stop or they were going to shoot, and I just carried on, gave them a nice little remark, and as I went down through the lanes at Courtil Simon I went straight past my house, they were chasing me[tape fault] up towards Saumarez Park, through the main gate at the bottom, and I knew it like the back of my hand so I shot up this path, and as I got to the top I turned my light off, swerved round, and the next thing I heard was a crash as two bikes went over the top and finished up in the stream at the bottom. At which I called out [ ] and went off.
