My first daughter Sylvia was born on the 10th September 1939. I do not remember the name of the place but the birth took place in a ballroom with green satin walls. My husband (who smoked a pipe in every room)had to go home to bring back napkins and everything needed for the baby. After the birth we were sent home very quickly.
