I was stationed at RAF Snaith (between Doncaster and Goole), 51 Squadron. Number 4 Group Bomber Command, operating Halifax Aircraft. We heard the news on the radio about the end of the war in Europe. Later in the afternoon the station commander called everyone on to a special parade. We mustered on the perimeter track and all the bombers ere parked on the runway and then the group captain addressed us all鈥︹︹..鈥漌e are gathered here to give thanks that the war in Europe is ended and to pray for a swift end to the war in the Far East. We have done what we had to do and thankfully it鈥檚 been successful. I hope you are all soon home with your loved ones, good night and God bless us all.
