I can remember one time when the siren went off, my mother grabbed a pan off the black-leaded fire, and put it in the middle of the table. What she didn鈥檛 realise was that a red-hot cinder was stuck to the underside of the pan. She was rushing so much she put my brother鈥檚 trousers on back to front. As we got to the air raid shelter the siren went off for the 鈥渁ll clear鈥 so we went back home. As we got to the house we could smell burning, the pan had burnt right through the middle of the table and the taties were all over the floor. My mother said 鈥渢hat鈥檚 it 鈥 there鈥檚 no dinner today鈥.
I remember a doodle bug bomb landing in the grounds of Hightown hospital.
