The Home Guard were disbanded in December 1944. That was the stand-down on 11th December 1944.
There was a big parade of the whole Co Antrim Battalion up to 1st Ballymena Church. Maynard Sinclair, who was then in the Ulster Govt, came and addressed everybody and thanked them all for, I think he was drowned on the Princess Victoria in 1950. Nearly sure he was. Maynard Sinclair and Sir Walter Smiles were 2 MPs, both drowned when the Princess Victoria sank.
He came and spoke on behalf of the King, to thank everybody for their services. Paraded everybody - Civil Defence, Home Guard, all the forces, St John Ambulance, anybody who was involved at all.
