My lasting Memory of World War II is鈥he comradeship. I never wanted to serve in the forces and, if there had not been a war, I wouldn鈥檛 have done. But I鈥檓 proud to be British and when called I was ready to do my bit. After three and a half years, I was saying 鈥淚 wouldn鈥檛 have missed the experiences鈥 good and bad for anything. Your outlook was very much broadened, you mix with all sorts and found good points in everybody and everybody felt responsibility for one another (as did the civilians at home). I wish this care was with us today instead of the couldn鈥檛 care less attitude. But there鈥檚 always hope.
