As told by Mrs Catherine Butler

I was in the A.T.S.

Doodlebugs were the most frightening. I was stationed in Southend. I was told that these things had no pilots, and that scared the daylights out of me. W65546 was my paybook number. "Good and willing worker whoo is a good influence on the whole company" was in my reference.

I've been in more trouble from laughing than from doing anything naughty: one time it had me peeling spuds for a fortnight.

I had to go to digs when I was demobbed having no family. I was so lonely and homesick I tried to get back to my billet. The Redcaps said, "What are you doing here?"
"I miss my friends!"
However I wasn't allowed back.
