Chapter three. Home Leave
Those who remained aboard,mainly from the Engine room Dept, and other Key ratings worked hard to keep the Ark afloat during her final hours and there was always the hope that she would be saved.
At the bottom of the rope I found myself on the deck of HMS Legion which soon took us into Gibraltar,back on shore there was very little we could do, and It was the first time I had seen so many seamen wandering aimlessly around dressed in overalls or boiler suits
