鈥淚 well remember a Zeppelin being brought down by the Ground Force; I was about 10 yrs old at the time, every one cheered in the street as they watched鈥
At the time of the WW2 Flossie, her husband and son were living in Fulwell, Sunderland.
鈥淢y husband was a transport driver in the RAF. I lost one brother, who was also a driver, blown up on a minefield with three others. 鈥樷楩or several years I worked as a canteen cook, and later as a nanny for an American family (one of the bosses of Good Year Tyres 鈥 and they still keep in touch with me). Rationing - we took that for granted, we didn鈥檛 starve, and just got on with coping on a daily basis with the war鈥
Mrs Routledge has survived both Great Wars and for the last year has lived in Albrighton to be near her son and his wife. She will be celebrating her 100th birthday in October 2005.
