There were sixteen, about sixteen American units here. The whole lot were known as Camp Bewdley. Why they decided on Camp Bewdley nobody know. But it was called Camp Bewdley. In the run up to D-Day General Patton came to Kidderminster.
He actually came in late May to Kidderminster and inspected his troops, and there are some photographs about, of his troops walking down Vicar Street were the salute was taken outside the Town Hall. Its not generally known, but there is a book about it which is now out of print which, gives it all in absolute detail. They had a military hospital here, at Wolverley; which is now a caravan park but on the old Wolverley Castle site there was an American military hospital. When asked how many Americans, Ron said: 鈥淥h, I鈥檇 hate to hazard a guess鈥
