I was just a youngster during the war but old enough to fancy a uniform. Especially those of the boys the French military academy whom my father would invite for meals. They invited me to Malvern College where they were based when General De Galle came to inspect them 1941.

I made a scrapbook, which included pictures of his visit and other memorabilia of that occasion. It was wonderful to be entertained by so many handsome young men in uniform. I became a friend of the ‘free French forces’ and after the war. My children and I were invited to Paris in 1972, too meet with those who had survived by now bald headed and fat; all business men, for reciprocal hospitality.

This was to meet with all of them who had survived.

The last time we met was in 1972.
