That is me in the middle, unfortueately.I have forgotten the names of the other two.
I suppose that being in DEMS was quite exclusive having seen only a few messages here.Although I was luckier than most in asmuch WW2 had just finished and the worst of the Raussian & Atlantic convoys were over duirng this time the RN and the Merchanmt Navy had botne the brunt of the U Boats and air attcks. I am very concerned that it took so long for the Mercjant Navy to be recocnised as to playing such an extensive part. When Marchant Seamn lost their Ship they virtually lost their job until ha found a new berth. I also understand that there were many Women employed as stewards and nurses who would also be affected in the smae way.
I also saw that on certain foriegn ships i.e. Norwegian and Dutch that some Captains and Officers had their wives with themn.
The only part I played was wating for the Invasion of a Japanese stronghold somewhere in the East and laying up in Bambay for about
2 months. When the Bomb was dropped and it ended the War, we carried on with the Invasion plans calling at Cochin for more Soldiers including the Chindits and Indian troops, then taking them to Port Sweetenham
and finally to Singapore and bringing back to England.
The ex prisoners which consisted of Children,Women and Men. Needles to say that they were in a dreadful state except the children who had obvioulsy been well cared for, certainly not by their captors.
I can only have good memories of those days and vbeing only 19. I could hardly appreciate my small part in the history of the time.
