My brother was a navigator with the RAF 76 squadron based at Holme on Spalding Moor in E.Yorkshire.He was shot down over Paris on the 6th of June 1944.If any relatives of the crew are on the internet I would be happy to exchange stories and photos.

Message 1 - Resubmit to RAF Research Desk

Posted on: 16 July 2003 by Deborah - WW2 Team

Hello there,

This contribution is currently at the Editorial Desk, but I think you would have more chance of a reply if you submitted it to the RAF Research Desk. You can do that by removing it from the Ed Desk, then clicking the 'Submit for Review' button, and choosing RAF Research Desk.

You would also have a better chance of a reply if you added your brother's name to the story - someone may come to the site and search for his name. You can do that by clicking the 'Edit' button on the right hand side of the story.

Do also tell us your own name - just click on the 'My Details' link in the top right hand corner of the page.

Best wishes
Deborah

Unfortunately I can only find record of one 76 Squadron aircraft shot down on 6th June 1944 and that was on a raid on coastal defence batteries at Mont Fleury, when all the crew were lost.Your brother's name would help any of his crew or their relatives to get in touch.
Best Regards,
Bill.

Hello,

I have been wandering around the web. So far I don't have any full answers or people to go to.

I did find a link for the squadron association (located towards bottom of page) - i would contact them?
About links

Some interesting websites that I have found about the squadron (and the people involved)

Are:
About links

who was a pilot who flew with the 76th

and also
About links

has some good detail (and a link to a live crew member - who might help?)

There also appears to be a book - "To See the Dawn Breaking: 76 Squadron Operations by W.R. Chorley.

There might be more information in the book?

Kind regards,

Starfish
