I married my husband Ralph in 1946 in Ryslip church,St Martins. He was stationed at Boscombe Down and had a weeks leave,it was a June wedding.I borrowed my friends wedding dress and 3 bridesmaid dresses. My dress was made of lace which didn't need coupons and i made a dress from a remnant for Ralph's sister who was 4 years old.We had 40-50 guests at our reception which was held at the Mayfair cafe in Ryslip and cost 1s6d a head.We had a two tier wedding cake the bottom half was iced cardboard and i also had my 25 shilling Bravington wedding ring which i wear to this day.We had a pianist at the reception at 1 pound an hour which was very expensive considering that Ralph is an excellent pianist. Our honeymoon was in Devon, there was barbed wire on the beach and we had seven shillings and sixpence left between us.
After the honeymoon Ralph went back to Boscombe Down and I returned to mothers for the next 6 years.
