The main RAF base was in N Ireland was Aldergrove. It is now called "Belfast International Airport"

It鈥檚 still there, on the far side of the mountains from Belfast.

During WW2 the USAAF used other bases at Knutts Corner and Langford lodge, for Seaplanes coming in from America.

[Fr Seamus Clenaghan was temporarily assigned to a parrish in Seattle, Washington State, USA.]

I was asked to fill a gap there.
The first Sunday I was there I introduced myself as coming from Ireland
After, when I was outside, meeting various ones, a man asked What part of Ireland I was from.

I replied 鈥淭he North鈥.

He asked me to be more explicit about where.

I said 鈥淐ounty Antrim鈥, and he asked me if I was from near Knutts Corner.

I thought - Knutts Corner? This man lived on the West coast of USA!

I said "How do you know about Knutts Corner?"

He said "During the war years I was based at Langford Lodge. When we got Leave we flew home from Knutts Corner. To go home, the few chances we got home."
