One Sunday morning my Dad said 'Let's cycle over to Springfield and see Uncle Ted at Springfield Green.' On arriving we were shocked to find their bungalow in ruins and a huge crater in the back garden next to the Tulip Public House. Uncle Ted had been out with the Fire Services during the raid. Aunt Nel and family were saved by the strong kitchen table that provided shelter.
