I remember I was in the Girls Training Corps. Things we did included first aid and aircraft recognition - not that I could recognise any now.
Living in Brandon - we were ready to take evacuees but they never came.
Going to school in Brandon — for about one term we only had to attend for half a day while the air raid shelters were being built. We had regular practices, and had to keep our ‘iron rations’ (chocolate/sweets) in with our masks. There were regular inspections, at which time we were tempted to eat the sweets. Often our sweet tokens were spent on replenishing these.
