Eric Prince, Trenchard's Brat 560870, was in the Royal Air Force from 1926 to 1953 and then he was with the Ministry of Aircraft production until he retired at the age of 65. He worked with aero engines all those years. His favourite aircraft always was the Spitfire.

He was stationed at RAF Hornchurch during the Battle of Britain with 222 Squadron. He was an old man of 30 then, as he used to say, and some of thepilots were boys from the university air squadron. Eric's main memory of the RAF always was of the Battle of Britain pilots. He used to say that we never really will understand how much we owe to them.

He had one memory of RAF Hornchurch which always amused him. Of course there was much camouflage round the airfields and near Hornchurch there were fields with mock wooden aircraft in them. One night the Germans came over and dropped wooden bombs on them.
