I went to join the ATS but they would not have me because my heart was not strong. So I joined the first aid post in Rothersthorpe Road. When the sirens went I had to put on my tin hat and go to the post.
We could hear the planes going over towards Coventry. My husband was in the Fire Service; he had to go to fight the fires. He had to go to London Docks also.
I went to London to stay with a relative, my husband was in Brighton. He would not let me stay in London because of the bombs – so he took me to Brighton. I used to stand in the gardens and watch the doodlebugs go over. We had to sleep in the shelters, When we come out my daughters pram was full glass from near by bomb explosion. Then we came back to Northampton the doodlebug seemed to followed us Northampton had had no bombs before.
