THE DORSETSHIRE REGIMENT
MY LATE FATHER HARRY THOMAS JONES WAS BORN ON THE 9TH JUNE 1911 AND JOINED THE ARMY IN 1929.
AFTER SERVICE IN THE U.K. AND A TOUR OF DUTY IN INDIA, HE WAS RELEASED TO THE ROYAL ARMY RESERVE ON 28TH JULY 1937.
HE WAS RECALLED TO SERVICE ON 15TH AUGUST 1939 AND WAS PART OF THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE (B.E.F.) SENT TO FRANCE / BELGIUM IN LATE 1939 EARLY 1940.
HE WAS A SURVIVOR OF THE DUNKIRK EVACUATION HAVING SPENT SOME THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS TRAPPED ON THE BEACHES UNTIL HIS RESCUE AND RETURN TO U.K.
I HAVE NO FURTHER INFORMATION BUT FEEL IT MY DUTY TO INFORM YOU OF THIS AND ALSO IN APPRECIATION OF THE SACRIFICES THAT MY FATHER AND THOUSANDS OF HIS COLLEAGUES MADE FOR THIS COUNTRY.
HARRY THOMAS JONES DIED ON 14TH JUNE 1987- GOD BLESS HIM
