hi and thanks to all those brave souls in every service that allows my freedom to write this brief story. my father r.s.m carr of the queens lancashire regiment (the loyals). he would often tell me stories of his deeds in italy one occasion going down some sided streets that meandered like a river and coming across a german unit, not afraid to tell me that he was frightened and gingerly turned back before being spotted so that he could get some re-enforcements to deal with the threat. another time how he told a superior officer that a bren gun carrier could be driven down a hill despite the risk it posed and then going onto proving the fact. such stories as stopping to do a number two toilet in the snow whilst being shot at how true i cannot say i wasnt there but he reckoned it was the truth. and my favourite is how he shot about 25 germans and carried them back to base on his military cane, how he carried them is a mystery unless you realise that he was meant to have strung them up by a part of the anatomy i shall not mention a young son was i and use to believe that one although logically very much a tale, that cane i still have ,sadly my father aged ninety passed away in 04, i talk to the cane every now and then and im sure it moves now and then or is that my dad telling me he's still a r.s.m in heaven you tell me. later on dad saw service in palestine and india or so my memory recalls and i think cyprus.
