I was evacuated to Kidderminster with my two sons and we were all treated poorly. We had little food and only a jug and basin with cold water to wash in. We took our chance and returned to Liverpool. We had an underground shelter in the garden, which we used frequently. I made trousers for the boys out of my old skirts and often had to queue up for potatoes and margarine. There was no butter and no bananas. One day I was cooking a scarce joint of meat but it was blown out of the oven as a bomb fell nearby. We tried to carry on our lives as normally as possible but we could often see planes overhead and life went on on a day-to-day basis. During this time I worked at BLackler's store in the city centre and alaways had to walk to work.
