I remember being in the air raid shelters where there was always plenty of toast and cocoa. I was evacuated to Wrexham and had a happy time there. While I was working in Woolworths I was called up for war work. My brother delivered coal and had a hard job delivering it to the landings of tenement blocks. We was paid three shillings and sixpence a week. When he got a back injury he was told by the UAB that he wife was working and would therefore be able to keep him.
