I was born in 1934 so my memories are as a child, the gas mask which we had to carry everywhere to school etc. The first time we had to go into the dugout in the school field, I walked in my sleep and fell downstairs. No bananas, ice creams and not many sweets. We had slips etc made from parachute material.

I also remember being scared as I walked home from school by the local Home Guard hiding behind the hedge.

I lived in Norfolk in a small village between Norwich and Yarmouth and we had an Anderson Shelter and every night if there were air raids we slept on a mattress downstairs.

Both Norwich and Yarmouth were heavily bombed especially Norwich because of a Bolton and Paul鈥檚 works. Memories of houses with their walls demolished and their rooms open to the sky with beds and furniture left exposed.
