In the early stages of the liberation there was very little support as far as doctors and nurses were concerned and my mother was often called upon to help. She had done some medical training and was able to administer medication, injections etc.
When the American鈥檚 came to our village after the occupation there was one of their troops who had been badly wounded and as there was a shortage of suitable buildings he was put in a barn.
Mamma was sent for and off she went with her kit to see what she could do. He had suffered a bad leg injury and Mamma went each day to nurse him. This involved an hour鈥檚 walk. Although we had a donkey, Mamma found it quicker to walk and made use of the donkey when she needed to transport food, water and blankets to her patient.
He gradually started to show improvements but it was around six months before he was able to venture out. As far as I know he survived his ordeal and returned to the America.
