I remember seeing young evacuees waiting on the platform at the railway station, just like sweets in a pick-and-mix, waiting to be picked if someone liked the look of them.
I was expecting a baby, it had been a difficult birth and just as my baby was born the air-raid siren sounded. For safety they put me and my new-born baby under the bed which was very low. When they got me out I cut my head on the bedstead.
