17 - George White鈥檚 war service.

鈥淚 was in a Territorial Unit and got called up in thirty-nine, so I was in the army until December forty-five, just after the War. We were Territorials, you see, we were mobilized before the War started. We had to make our own way, some of the fellows had cars, even in those days; we used to go in cars to Mickleton to do training and that..

When we got demobbed, we didn鈥檛 march into town (or anything like that). I was demobbed at Hereford, and I was in such a hurry to get home that I took a train to
Birmingham the same night, didn鈥檛 I, and I got a bus out in the morning 鈥 first thing in the morning to Stratford. We had a suit and a demob hat 鈥 an ordinary trilby hat, and the suit was, you know, off the peg cloth like you might get from the Fifty Shilling Tailors in those days. I had mine for some time, I couldn鈥檛 afford another one.鈥
