In 1990 an oral history project was launched in Stratford upon Avon, as a joint venture between the Stratford upon Avon Society and the Records Office of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. By the autumn of 2004, we had collected 190 interviews, of which 177 had been transcribed.
When the 大象传媒 People鈥檚 War project was launched, these transcripts were examined and a number were chosen that included reference to WWII. The relevant sections were then added to the People鈥檚 War website.
For 9 weeks in April and May, we participated in Wartime Wednesdays at the local library, and from that gathered a great many more stories.
The whole lot have now been added either to The Stratford Society website or the Warwickshire Library site - and our grand total of interviews and transcriptions has now reached 238. Of the large number of stories that related to the war, the 60 that were taken from oral history interviews had to be edited before being added to the site, so that they read as 鈥渟tories鈥 rather than interviews..
Peace has thus broken out in Stratford upon Avon, but the oral history project relating to the town continues.
