June 6th, 2.15 am, North of caen. The operation we had to do was to blow the coastal battery at le merviel, we landed in two gliders with 30 men in each glider. The operation began with engineers using bangalore explosives to blow up the back blockhouse to reach the firing mechanisms of the main guns. When we had blown the backs off we through in grenades and multi-explosives and attacked the garrison of the village composed of s.s panza men. A few prisoners were taken. After we opened the beachead off sword beach to allow the british and canadians to come through, they then advanced through the falaize gap and headed for caen. We then re-grouped and headed in land to support the rest of our regiments and rounded up prisoners. We then came into contact with hitler youth regiments and then finally met up with the main force that had come off of the beachheads and then continued with them to capture caen and the surrounding areas. we then proceeded with the main force towards the rhein river where we came under heavy fire from German units of s.s and german viemach army units. supported by s.s tanks and aircraft we called up the raf and the american airforce who dispersed them. We then split up into special units to supervise prisoners from camps. They were called displaed persons of different nationallity.
