One of my greatest memories was when I was sent to Singapore with the Royal Army Medical. At this time my brother was in the Navy. We had always been close throughout our childhood so when we were both sent away it was a great misery. I wrote him letters to keep in touch. It was not to my knowledge that he was also in Singapore!
Behind where I was working there was a canal with navy ships on it. To my delight through these letters I found out my brother was working on one of these ships.
It took weeks to finally be able to meet up but when we eventually did it was worth the wait! This was the first time I had seen him in nearly three years. It was a very emotional day and from that reunion we carried on meeting up, sharing our stories and reminiscing upon old times.
When I was finished working in the army I still stuck with the medical side of working life. To show recognition for my dedication to caring for the sick, I received a medal. Receiving that medal was one of the proudest moments of my life. It was made so much more special by the fact that my brother was there to share it with me.
