I am trying to find out where my father sailed from, and if possible the name of the ship he was on, when he arrived at Plymouth at 6pm. on the 19th. June 1940, from France. he had been over there just over a month with the 1st. Ammunition Division. From Plymouth he went to Devizes in Wiltshire. I believe the ship weighed 22000 ton and had 3 funnells. John Haylor.

my father John"jack"Gray who was in the rasc driver suppying ammo and shells for the artillery evacuated out of St.Malo on the 18th june after being disarmed by the French at Rennes barracks. They were told to get to St.malo by the 18th or they would be interned for the rest of the war.They arrived back in England on the 19th and slept on the quayside until the morning and then left to regroup in bognor-regis , wales.

I think that the troops who were evacuated to Plymouth came from ports in Britanny and on the Atlantic coast. There were BEF and French soldiers too. They were landed at Millbay docks, not Devonport.
