I lived in Cuffley, Hertfordshire, which was then a small village. I lived with my mum, in Burleigh Way, a cul de sac, most of the time during the war. My dad was in the RAF dealing with the barrage ballons in London. We did go to live in Haverhill Suffolk with a friend of my mums for the last couple of years before the war ended. This was because Cuffley was near Enfield were the ordnance factory was therefore being a risk for German bombers.
This picture shows me, (aged four) with my Mum and Michael the boy next door. We took all our vegetable bits and pieces to the pig bin, which was situated at the top of our road...
As you can see from the photo, in those days we didn't worry about designer label clothes!!! In fact my mum made my clothes out of other things that were worn out... she made me a coat fromone of her old dressing gowns. D'you like or slippers!!!
Despite all that- I have many memories of a happy childhood.
