The Western Brothers performing in North Africa

The following is an extract from my father's diary, written whilst on an ENSA Tour of North Africa in September 1943. He was Kenneth Western of 'The Western Brothers'; a famous double act in the 1930s and 40s.

KAIROUAN - TUNISIA

Show in the towns Major Square. Open air with about 3,000 troops present. It was a grand sight.

In the middle of the act, a note was handed to us by the Commanding Officer asking us to announce - 'Unconditional Surrender of Italy'

Terrific reaction, hats flung high in the air and the stage littered - unforgettable scene!

I have been collecting information about the Western Brothers and hadn't heard about their North African tour.

Some of the public information about them can be seen at my website at:

About links

More information about their genealogy can be found at:

About links

My email address is on the bottom of the latter page if anyone wishes to make direct contact.

Thanks,
Trevor Western

Loved your sites.
I recall them for their advice to "Look after yourselves, cads, there are very few of us left".
