In 1944 when my Mother was newly married she lived in Cornwall. My Father was a pilot in the RAF and away a lot on active service in Coastal Command. This meant my Mother was on her own quite a lot as she was a long way from her family in Heywood. My parents has just had their first child, my brother Gregory. Things like prams were very hard to come by because everything was rationed or needed coupons as well as spare cash. So my brother's pram was a primitive affair but it did the job. My Mother would proudly take out my brother in his pram for a walk through the village. I don't know what it was made of, but because of its shape, my Mother called it Hitler's coffin!

Message 1 - Hitler's Coffin.

What a laugh you gave me, Mary with your story.
It was pathetic really with the lovely baby being placed in the home-made pram but what a laugh it must have raised. How it must have gladdened people when they saw it and the proud mother and remembered what she called it; no wonder Hilter lost the war. He couldn't just couldn't compete with English humour.
