Altogether I had quite an exciting time. Whenever I was in V-Force in the Indian Army I had no change of clothing. Our Indian soldiers were first class though. Three companies were Hindus and one company was Muslim. They looked after their officers well as we looked after them.
Indian troops are recruited from different ethnic races and they鈥檝e been proven for hundreds of years; they were all coming to the same battalions as their fathers before them. It was more like a family affair. They joined as boys and were trained up.
They often reached the rank of Platoon commander in the British army and were given the honorary rank of maybe captain whenever they left the army.
