A little story sent to us here at the Clubhouse (from Mr Sains):
I served in the army during the war. Whilst I was on a weekend pass, my wife and I were walking through the Pells at Lewes one evening, and of course during the blackout. This particular night we came accross the so called "Midnight Milkman"... his real name was either Deadman or Digweed.
He used to deliver milk from a large churn on the back of his horse and cart. I understand it was his practise to leave the horse and deliver several homes up ahead at one time, the horse would always catch up with the midnight milkman's deiveries.
On this particular occasion, a group of French Canadians had turned the horse and chafts around and harnessed him up. It was now facing the wrong way!
I know that I shouldn't really admit this, but to this day I still have a little chuckle (many years on!!)
