I was born in North London in 1940 and stayed there throughout The War.
The most vivid memory I have was going to a birthday party when I was 4 or 5. The party was in North London.
We were having tea about 4 or 5pm and there were about ten of us around the table which was by a large window fitted with a Blackout Curtain. Half way through tea there was an enormous explosion and the window fell on to the table - fortunately no one present was injured - although very close to The House a V1 or V2 (Large Explosive Rocket) had come down and killed several people.
My main disappointment was that we could not finish our tea !
