I was about 18 when the war broke out, I remember it very well. I joined the Air Force - I signed up as soon as the war started. I got married and went round with my husband to start with because he was in the army. We got married during the war, we got a special licence and got married and we walked to the church 鈥� we couldn鈥檛 afford cars in them days.

Everything went on just as usual, the church was bombed after we got married though: so that was lucky I鈥檇 already got married.
