During 1941 there were regular bombing raids on Handsworth in Birmingham — it was horrible, We sometimes had to stay in the cold in cellar all night when the raids were going on. On two occasions we had to evacuate our home because there were unexploded bombs.
During one raid my boyfriend came to take me to his house — a Molotov cocktail bomb had set all shops on fire along the Soho Road. It was terrible.
I have some good memories too because I met my husband in Handsworth Park — it was a wonderful and peaceful place.
