Alexander Scott saved the life of a man named Albert Phillips twice during World War II. The first time was when they were both on leave in Italy. Albert decided to go swimming in a river but he suddenly got cramp. Alex, who was then only a young soldier, jumped into the river to save Albert from drowning. The second time was when they were both guarding Germans in a prisoner-of-war camp just after the War had been won. One of the German prisoners somehow managed to get hold of a rifle and was threatening Albert with it. Alex quickly punched the German and over-powered him once again saving Albert鈥檚 life. Not long after the war on October 13th 1945 Albert was married and he lived for almost another six decades, dying only very recently. These memories were extremely special to my grandfather, Alex, and he was so proud of giving Albert all that time that he would otherwise have lost. This was in fact the last story my grandfather ever told us and it will always be something I will remember and it will always make me proud of my grandfather. He did so many brave things but this was one of the most important to him. I think he chose that it would be the last story he told us so that we would remember him for the man he was and not the illness that took him from us.
