My Call-Up -Part 4
Life went on in the 17th. Returned stores depot in Germany.
Wednesday afternoon came around, the normal free period we had enjoyed in the past was no more, this time we were ushered on to a field by this very keen officer to play football! He pranced around yelling at me as the ball came in my direction "come on, come on" I promptly turned away from it, much to his disgust, let some other keen young man kick it, I have no love whatever for football, and compulsory football
no time for at all, the next week the officer arranged for getting a team together
this I thought was good, for it left me alone.
The following Wednesday afternoon came around and they had arranged to play a game with the locally based r.a.s.c., their match commenced and i stood around with one or two others, the sergeant and the officer were yelling their heads off urging there newly formed team on, I was bored stiff hoping some one would hurry up and win or maybe hoping it would rain, so we could get back to our quarters out of it
then the sergeant shouted at us saying "I want to hear you cheering them on, come on lets have some response. "feeling this was a bit of a liberty, compulsory cheering!
I cheered alright " up the service corps" he glared at me , and I'm afraid I too glared back. So much for regimental football.
