I remember waiting in the school hall waiting to be evacuated to Blackpool. I was 8 at the time. There was quite a lot us of. When we arrived at Blackpool we had to go to another school hall to see who was going to take us. There was 20 children and two teachers taken to one house. The lady was very nice to us. We were only there three weeks then had to move. We went further into Blackpool, 20 of us again, which wssnt very nice. We had to use the back door. We came home after 5 weeks. I was upset because I lost my doll. When we got back to motor street bus station, we got off the coach to a clear blue sky. We saw the barage balloons we had never seen before. The next thing I remember was the rationing and no school because there were no teachers. There was continuous bombing, then started on the doodle bugs. You had to stay in your bed and not come down. You used to hear them coming across. My dad went to the RAF and my brother went later. When it ended we had abig street party, every body was there. It was fantastic! My sister had a friend, her father was taken and they never found out where he was until the end of the war. They didn't know if he was alive or dead. My dad came home one night and we had all fallen asleep in the cellar and we had made blankets because it was so cold. My Dad came back and could not find us! When my Dad was called up. He looked after squadron leaders. He had gone out on a raid, and he went to get a cup of tea and the leader collapsed. From his shoulder to to his toes he was covered in holes and he survived.
